PANAJI: Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) is all set to increase its fleet which currently consists of 502 buses, and expand its operations both inter-state and intra-state.
Shuttle service, which is much in demand, is also going to be augmented and new routes introduced in the next couple of months. Plans are also afoot to increase the frequency of the current trips to other states as well.
New routes which will be opened are Panaji to Kolhapur via Vengurla, Panaji to Devgad via Sawantwadi, Margao to Gondovali via Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
Deputy general manager of KTCL, V V S Kunkolienkar said, "We are going to start some new interstate routes and the existing trips to Hubli and Belgaum will also be augmented. About 50 interstate buses are purchased for all interstate routes. There won't be any delay in starting the service, once the drivers and conductors are recruited."
The shuttles and local services currently plying in the state will also be augmented. Fifty more buses are purchased for shuttle service on existing routes like Panaji-Margao, Panaji-Vasco, Panaji-Sakhali, Panaji-Mapusa and Margao-Sanvordem.
"We will be starting shuttle services from Margao to Canacona and from Panaji to Bicholim in a few months. We have also proposed additional shuttle services from Panaji to Pernem, for which we are yet to receive a permit," Kuncolienkar told STOI.
